Suddenly the 50 gallon hot water tank/heater developed a leak. This is not very surprising as the water from the well causes corrosion and eventual the metal tank rusts and leaks. Options were to replace the tank and oil burner for well over $5,000 or to simply remove the system and convert to electric on-demand system for 10% of that and eliminate wasted oil burned to keep 50 gallons of water hot and not have to replace the tank next time it rusts out.
