Holland – Groningen: Pancakes and windmills

The occasional day of sunshine followed unavoidably by rain.Three actual functioning windmills form a “windmill museum”. These three windmills were used as water pumping stations to drain the land of water. No longer used in that capacity they are now still pumping water but only for show. The water level is now pumped via electric pumps computer controlled. The electricity used to power the pumps is generated by wind turbines so it could be said that the new windmills still pump the water.

The city of Groningen is large and beautiful city. I visited during the government elections. The pancake ship is a must stop for dinner only as they are not open in the morning.
