Anguillara Sabazia and The Port of Rome

August 5th – 9th 2013

Our home base was a B&B in the village of Anguillara Sabazia on the shores of Lake Bracciano. This location gave us access to Rome and the surrounding area without having to stay inside the city.  First up is a small rail car created in part with parts from several FIAT 500s. Our first adventure was to visit the Italian Air-force Museum. We next visited a large villa in the area. The next day we went to Ostia Antica, the harbor city of ancient Rome, 15 miles southwest of Rome. The site is noted for the excellent preservation of its ancient buildings, magnificent frescoes and impressive mosaics. There was no charge to enter… and essential no one else there. On the way back to home base we stopped by the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. This impressive palace is one of Rome’s four ancient, papal, major basilicas. The basilica was founded by the Roman Emperor Constantine.
