Replacing Old Trunk Springs

Over time, the springs holding the trunk (boot) lid stretch out as they are normally in the extended state while the trunk is closed. This causes the trunk lid to not stay open fully and is a source of head-banging nuisance. As per factory springs are available but eventually the same problem will arise. A shop in Australia has developed a new design spring, double the length of the originals thereby reducing the stress per coil.  Installing these springs is a challenge without a tool to help extend the very strong spring. A factory tool is not available so one must be home-made.  Also, the factory hinge is nothing more then a aluminum rivet. It is recommended to replace this use a  shoulder bolt. washers and locking nut.
